About the Show
Generations of farming families have networked with one another in the aisles of the National Poultry Show supporting the event through its metamorphosis from the Poultry Industry Council and Exhibition in the late 1950’s to the millennial London Poultry Show and finally recognizing its National status in the 2000’s with attendees and exhibitors from across the globe.
It was the little show that grew, housed in the Manufacturing Building in its early days, which burned to the ground, during the show, in 1963, and grew out of the ashes to expand and fill the Progress Building in the 1960’s and 70’s as the industry rallied to ensure its must-attend status. By the 1980’s and 90’s thousands of attendees were enjoying delicious luncheons at the show which highlighted tasty industry fare and became fun and unique networking opportunities at the event. In the last two decades the show, with partner the Poultry Industry Council, has enhanced its educational component for producers. Bio Security, Energy Conservation, Poultry Welfare, Heat Stress, Clean Water and Poultry Science were topics producers wanted to learn about. When the industry faced the avian influenza crisis in 2015 the show in solidarity with its industry partners canceled the event to ensure that it did not risk the socialization of poultry producers and spread the virus wider, bringing further economic harm to the industry. It was a tough year, but in true industry form the event and its stakeholders rallied back and in 2016 the event grew and expanded again into the Agriplex, fortifying its longevity with exhibitors, sponsors and customers.
Today the National Poultry Show has grown to be one of North America’s premier poultry trade shows, bringing together the best in the poultry industry with the latest in poultry technology, innovations and education.
The show continues to be a great partnership between (PIC) and (WFA), and has given back to the industry and producers since 1957. A portion of the revenues from this event help PIC create educational resources, and programs for the Ontario poultry sector.
About the Poultry Industry Council:
The Poultry Industry Council (PIC) is a registered, Canadian charity that was formed in 1997 as a result of a merger between the Ontario Poultry Council and the Poultry Industry Centre. The activities of PIC are made possible through the efforts of a twelve-person volunteer Board representing both producers and the poultry industry, along with 3 full-time staff members.
The Poultry Industry Council works to stay current on innovative research, resources, training, and learning opportunities to ensure the poultry sector is staying ahead of the curve. Each year, the board members and staff work collaboratively with the industry to build a new strategic direction and business plan. This way PIC’s primary activities are targeted specifically to industry and producer needs.
Each year we bring together producers, industry, veterinarians, and academia to a range of workshops and events. Our National Poultry Show, hosted each year in April, is a 65-year tradition that celebrates and showcases all the best the industry has to offer.
